Getting to the Hardangerfjord Region and around

Hardanger is a five-hour drive from Oslo, and a one-hour drive from Bergen. The area is easily accessed by car or public transport.

By plane

Catch a flight to nearby airports in Bergen, Haugesund, Stavanger and Stord.

By boat or ferry

The passenger boat route Norheimsund - Herand - Utne - Lofthus - Kinsarvik - Ulvik - Eidfjord operates from 1 May to 30 September. This route is operated by Tide.

The car ferries in Hardanger are also operated by Tide.

By bus

Nor-Way Bussekspress operates several bus routes to/from Hardanger. There are for example several daily departures between Bergen and Hardanger with Nor-Way Bussekspress and Skyss.

Organised trips

The tour Across Norway is a beautiful journey by train, bus and boat from Oslo to Bergen passing the Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau and the Hardangerfjord region. Across Norway is operated by Tide Reiser.

From Bergen and Oslo there are several organised day excursions such as the popular Hardanger in a nutshell ®. Season: 1st May – 31st October. Duration: 1 day or more.

You can buy an organised trip from Oslo to Bergen via the Hardangervidda mountain plateau, by train, bus and boat, operated by Tide Reiser.

  • From Kristiansand: 300 kilometres – 5 hours
  • From Trondheim: 580 kilometres – 10 hours
