Go whale watching with Whalesafari Andenes

Join a breathtaking whale safari where you learn about these fascinating creatures and watch them glide, blow water and dive into the water.

Encountering a whale in the middle of the deep sea is a once in a lifetime experience. As the boat departs from the harbour front of Andenes in Vesterålen, Northern Norway, many people on board feel deeply emotional.

The Whalesafari Andenes boat approaches the whales using a sonar tracking system. When a whale is near, usually after a few miles, the captain plays its intriguing sound through the speakers. Everyone is impatiently awaiting its appearance, there is a complete silence and the tension is palpable... Until someone shouts "there!", followed by many "wows" and camera flashes. The whale reveals its shape and blows water a few times. "Diving", the captain shouts shortly after that, and almost immediately the whale dives back into the deep water showing its magnificent tail.

Learn about whales and meet them in the deep sea

The whale safari always starts with a guided tour at the Whalesafari Museum. A whale expert will introduce you to the evolutionary history of whales, the different species, their behaviour and the research that is currently carried out. The main attractions of the museum are the whole skeletons of a sperm whale and a killer whale.

Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits are served on board, and on the way back you can enjoy a tasty vegetable soup with bread - the warmth of which is most appreciated. At the end of the whale safari you receive a participation certificate.

In the unlikely event that the crew fail to find a whale during the tour, you may join another trip at no extra charge.

When

In the winter season, from late November to mid-February, Whalesafari Andenes offers one tour per day. The guided tour in the Whale Museum starts at 9.00 am and takes around 30 minutes. The boat departs at 10.00 am and the trip usually lasts for 2-4 hours.

Price

NOK 990 per person including a guided tour in the museum at the Whale Safari Centre in Andenes.
