Natural wonders

The Fjord Norway Region stretches from Egersund in the south to just north of Kristiansund. The fantastic scenery is the perfect frame around a wide range of activities. Round trips are a great way of experiencing the variety of the region from coastline to inland.  Perhaps you prefer a holiday based in a cabin or small hotel, where daytrips will provide you with different experiences on your doorstep.  Regardless of how you prefer to travel, you may enjoy a wide range of activities from easy walking to mountain hiking, kayaking on the fjords, lakes or along the coast. Walk on the glaciers, try island-hopping or try your luck at fishing. For accommodation with a difference, how about trying a stay light house?

From village to city

Although the region is best known for its stunning scenery, don’t miss the opportunity to explore one of the beautiful towns. Stavanger is located in the very heart of the fjords and manages to be both a cosmopolitan city and an unspoilt hideaway. The narrow streets have mountain views in almost every direction, with deep blue waters lapping against the charming quayside.  Sitting on a peninsula on the Lysefjord and warmed by the Gulf Street, the climate is mild and summers can be wonderful. In the Lysefjord you will find the impressive rock formation known as the Pulpit Rock. If you don’t fancy walking to the top, take in its splendour from a fjord cruise below. If you fancy a break from the nature based activities on offer, Stavanger was European Capital of Culture in 2008 and boasts a lively cultural scene.  The town centre has excellent restaurants specialising in local fish and seafood and the lively café society spills out onto the seafront.

A coastal adventure

Moving north from Stavanger, the picturesque city of Bergen makes a great base for exploring and comfortable express boats, buses and trains will whisk you away into the countryside. If you prefer to be your own driver you will have ample opportunity to discover little gems slightly off the beaten track. Further north along the coast lies the Art Noveau town of Ålesund, perfect for a city break or as a base for exploring some of the wildest scenery in the region.
