Telemark skiing in Norway

Invented high in the Norwegian mountains of might, the elegant style of Telemark skiing leaves you thrilled with excitement.

It all began in the Norwegian mountain village of Morgedal over three hundred years ago. With daring skiing competitions, ski jumps and swings, Sondre Norheim taught the whole world Telemark skiing.

Telemark skiing differs from regular alpine skiing in style and equipment and has been described as the most rhythmic and flowing way to descend a snow covered mountain.

With the commercialization of recreational skiing and the growth of ski resorts, the Telemark skiing technique failed to catch on. By the 1950's, the Telemark turn was close to becoming a forgotten treasure. However, the 1980's saw a revival of this fabulous style of skiing, which can be an almost ethereal experience in those moments when everything comes together: Form, function, time and space.

Today, Telemark skiing is practiced by a small group of dedicated enthusiasts all over the world – committed to this ultimate combination of elegance and raging speed. You can easily spot them when they "dance" their way down the slopes.

If you have not already been mesmerized, come try Telemark skiing in one of the many outstanding ski resorts spread all over Norway.
