About Hurtigruten ASA

Hurtigruten ASA is a merger of the companies Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab ASA and Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap ASA.

The merger was originally named Hurtigruten Group ASA, but Annual shareholders meeting decided 26 April 2007 to change the company name to Hurtigruten ASA. The company's areas of operations are:

  • Hurtigruten
  • Travel 
  • Public transport (ferries, high-speed vessels and bus)
  • Goods

The Merged company has an annual turnover of approximately NOK 3.500 million, 2,400 employees, and operations in Europe, the USA and South-America.  Main location is in Norway.

The fleet

Altogether the company runs 11 Hurtigruteships along the Norwegian coast, in addition to 54 ferries and high-speed vessels in Nordland, Troms and Sunnmøre. The company has also 2 ships in cruise traffic in the Antarctica and 1 ship in cruise along the Greenland coast. In addition, the company offers cruises from Arctic to Antarctica and in Svalbard. The company Nor Lines runs several goods ships. 

Subsidiary companies

Hurtigruten ASA owns a line of travel agencies through the subsidiary company Bergenske Reisebyrå AS, and runs the hotels Neptun and Strand in Bergen through the subsidiary company OVDS Hotels AS.

Through Spitsbergen Travel AS the company has traveling operations and hotels on Svalbard, and tour operators in Germany, England, Sweden and the USA are fully owned subsidiary companies. The same goes for the Norwegian tour operators Kystopplevelser and Kystreiser. The company also comprises bus transport through Tirb, Tromsbuss and Ofotens Bilruter. The company Nor Lines owns 50 per cent.

Employees

The main office of the company is situated in Narvik. There are also company offices in Tromsø and Stokmarknes.

Hurtigruten ASA currently employs 2400 people, of which approximately 1800 works in seabased operations, and approximately 170 works in the foreign sales organisation.
