Hiking in Hemsedal and Golsfjellet

Enjoy one of the best hiking areas in Norway, located in the region of Hallingdal, midway between Oslo and Bergen.

Hemsedal, by the Scandinavian alps

Hemsedal is a paradise for all hiking enthusiasts - beginners and advanced hikers alike. Enjoy as many as 41 graded and marked hikes, covering a total distance of 210 kilometres.

The area has a scenic landscape with many waterfalls and lakes, no matter where you choose to hike. You can also combine your hiking trip with climbing, biking or fishing. The chair lift can take you up to 1100 metres abobe sea-level, a fun experience for both young and old and a convenient way to skip the hardest bit at the beginningof your hike.

Golsfjellet, a family friendly mountain area

Golsfjellet, with its open high mountain terrain and many activities for all ages, is well known as the family friendly mountain. Follow well marked and maintained tracks to peaks with views towards Jotunheimen, the Hemsedal mountains and Hallingskarvet. If you choose, you can also combine your hiking with fishing, riding, biking and even a swim in a mountain lake.

Season

The hiking season starts in early June and lasts until the beginning of October. Please note that the season might start a little bit later higher up in the mountain, depending on the snow conditions.

Accommodation

All types of accommodation are a available, from campgrounds with camping huts, holiday apartments, luxury cabins and hotels with all kinds of facilities. In the Hemsedal mountains you also find several DNT huts, with the possibility for hiking from hut to hut, for example, Kljåen, Bjordalsbu and Breistølen.

You can fly, take the train, bus or drive to Hemsedal and Golsfjellet.
