Hiking in Skeikampen

Skeikampen is a small informal holiday hiking and biking resort at the foot of the Skeikampen Mountain in the Gudbrandsdalen Valley area.

Skeikampen is a great area for hiking and offers beautiful surroundings, alternating between forest and mountain terrain. From short walks to multi-day hikes, Skeikampen is well suited for families.

The hiking season is from late May to early October.

Hiking possibilities

The mountains at Skeikampen have been a popular recreation area for many generations. The old trade routes passed through this area in ancient times. Today there is a network of over 150 kilometres of well-marked trails awaiting visitors. 

Skeikampen, at 1,123 metres above sea level, is the next highest mountain in this area. The highest one is Prestkampen (1,244 metres). From the top of Skeikampen or Prestkampen hikers enjoy breathtaking views and can see all the way to Jotunheimen and down to the glittering surface of Lake Mjøsa.

Accommodation

Skeikampen offers a great variety of accommodation, including Thon Hotel SkeikampenVelkomstsenterAustlid Fjellstue and cabins and apartments. All units are located central to facilities and walking routes.

How to get there

Skeikampen is located 35 minutes northwest of Lillehammer, three hours north of Oslo, four hours south of Trondheim by car.

By train to Lillehammer, and pick-up or local bus to Skeikampen. 
By car: The main thoroughfare E6 from Oslo to Lillehammer (or from Trondheim to Tretten), and rv. 255/254 to Skeikampen (45 minutes).
