Fishing in Kristiansund and Nordmøre

Go deep sea fishing for cod or halibut, catch wild salmon in a local lake or try fly-fishing for pollock. The options are many in this part of Norway.

Big fish are waiting by the Atlantic Road. At famous fishing destinations such as Smøla and Averøy you can hire a boat or let a skipper take you out to sea. Along the deep, blue fjords, waters are more sheltered and offer plentiful fishing.

In addition to sea fishing, you should try fishing in the famous salmon and trout rivers such as Surna and Driva. The currents of Smøla also offer excellent sea trout fishing. You may also try fly-fishing for pollock, a great spring adventure. There are also numerous fishing lakes, both on the mainland and on the islands.

When

The best time is between March and the end of October. But fishing is possible all year.

Fish species

You will find species such as cod, halibut, haddock, pollock, saithe, mackerel, herring, cusk and ling. Trout and salmon can all be caught in local lakes, streams and rivers.

Target groups

Individuals, families or groups of hardcore fishermen – the region of Kristiansund and Nordmøre has something for everybody.

Hire

Some of the campsites have boats available for their guests. Fishing guides are available upon request. Rent a boat and let the guide come along and show you the best fishing spots. You can also let a skipper take you out to sea in a larger boat – again, a sure way to find the best fishing spots.
