Where to stay in Ryfylke

As you journey through Ryfylke you will find varied accommodation, from Lysebotn at the head of the Lysefjord to Sauda in the north.

Forsand & Lysefjorden

In summer you can stay at a bed & breakfast at a charming farm, a youth hostel or camping in Lysebotn, or rent a holiday apartment in the fjordside village of Flørli. Follow the National Tourist Route Ryfylke, rv.13, from Forsand – and you will find cabins and camp sites beautifully situated beside the fjord or near the mountains.

Strand

The spectacular lodge Preikestolen Fjellstue is an example of fine modern architecture using traditional wood as its prime building material. This is the perfect starting point for your walk to the top of Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock). In the center of Jørpeland you will find the newly restored Verkshotellet, opened in 2011. If you continue toward Hjelmeland, at the heart of the Ryfylke region, you can rent cabins, rooms, a holiday apartment or house from one of the friendly and helpful hosts. Try cabins at Hamrane Hyttefelt or Wathne Camping or a room in Vaulali summerhotel.

Hjelmeland

A number of cabin owners will offer their guests the use of a boat, either included in the rental fee or at a reasonable price. After a long walk in the mountains or forest, why not reward yourself with a soothing spa treatment at Spa-hotell Velvære in Hjelmeland? Excellent dining and a fjord panorama will make your stay memorable. On Randøy island there are nice cabins at Kaadavaagen Fjordhytter and Breivik Fjordferie. At Fister Solvåg Fjordferie is excellent.

Suldal

Your northward journey takes you to the municipality of Suldal. Consider a rewarding detour, leaving the Ryfylke Road and heading toward Gullingen, stopping at Øvre Moen. From where you can enjoy a beautiful walk to Stranddalen, a lodge run by the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT). On arrival in the summer, you will find hearty traditional fare and a good bed.

If you continue driving to the village of Sand, there is additional accommodation, including Mo Laksegard, a renowned estate on the Suldalslågen River catering to salmon anglers and other guests. New holiday houses Dysja Fjordohytter are located at the Ropeidhalvøya peninsula.

Up in Nesflaten Energihotellet offers nice rooms overlooking Suldalsvatnet lake. The best place to try Suldal ham ("Suldalsskinka").

Sauda

The National Tourist Route Ryfylke rv. 13 follows the run of the fjord; continue on Fv. 520 to the town of Sauda. It is a great place from which to explore the surrounding scenery and the area's fascinating industrial history. Rent a cabin at the camp site, or enjoy a stay at Sauda Fjord Hotel or Kløver Hotell.

Ryfylke Island

For fishing tourists or families there are cabins near the fjord or at a farm (bed and breakfast), try for example Soltun Fjordhytter. Sjernarøyane Islands are recommended for cycling, here you find Norda HidleSjernarøytunet and Ramsvig Handelsstad (summer restaurant).
