The good climate, fresh air and abundance of lush mountain pastures mean that the Sognefjord area produces some of the best fresh ingredients around.
The quality of the morello cherries in the area is so good that producers supply exclusive shops such as Harrods in London, and it is no coincidence that the largest producer of fruit and berry products in Norway, Lerum, come from an idyllic village by the Sognefjord.
There are strong food traditions in Sogn, and there is even a festival dedicated to the Norwegian phenomenon of "gammelost", (literally old cheese).
More and more restaurants and cafés in the Sogn area mainly use local ingredients in all their dishes, accompanied by delicious, home-pressed apple juice. Be sure not to miss out on the fantastic raspberry juice that is produced in the area. The area also has an exciting microbrewery in Flåm, which serves beer brewed in the traditional way in a Viking inspired pub.
Naturally, you can also choose dishes and drinks you know from other parts of the world, but be sure to enjoy a taste of Sogn.
