Elk safari in the Gålå area

13 June — 4 September

Guided tour by minibus to an area where elk are frequently spotted. Sampling of sausage made of elk meat. Start and end times: 6.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from Gålå. Other days by appointment. Registration before 7 p.m. on the preceding day.

Musk ox safari at Dovrefjell

1 June — 31 August

Guided walk into Dovrefjell National Park, starting from Kongsvold Fjeldstue every day during the season. Expert guides know where to find the musk oxen. Allow four to five hours for this hike in the mountains. See moskus-safari.no.

Hiking in Venabygdsfjellet

Two alternative guided walks are offered five days a week (not on weekends), one less demanding walk and one that is a little longer. Mondays: Visiting falls and gorges on the mountain plateaus. Tuesdays: A walk to the old mountain farm village of Jønnhalt (includes a traditional mountain farm lunch). Wednesdays: A visit to the world of the wild reindeer, walking towards Sollia church. Thursdays: Hiking in Rondane National Park, with a special emphasis on showing the old hunting culture. Fridays: The great summits: Hiking to Gravskardshøgda or Høgronden. Starts from Venabu Fjellhotell every day at 9 a.m., returning at about 5 p.m. Registration to be made on the preceding day.

Walks with "Lama-Martin"

1 July — 31 August A speciality only offered at Rondablikk Høyfjellshotell: Martin the lama and his mistress Vibeke take visitors on both short and long walks in the surroundings of Kvamsfjellet. Group walks to the wilderness camp at Sukkertoppen, among other destinations. Martin will carry your lunch and you may enjoy the views towards three national parks: Rondane, Jotunheimen and Dovre.

Fishing

There are excellent fishing opportunities in most rivers and mountain lakes in Gudbrandsdalen. Fishing permits may be obtained at the tourist offices, most sports shops, petrol stations, post offices and places of accommodation can often also provide great tips on good fishing spots. Children under the age of 16 may fish without charge. Otter board fishing is permitted in some of the lakes.

Hunting

There are excellent hunting opportunities throughout Gudbrandsdalen, both for big and small game. For more information on hunting opportunities and seasons, please contact the local landowners' associations.

Rafting

Daily rafting trips throughout the season. Various types of trips are offered: Whole or half day rafting trips, overnight stays, wilderness camping trips, rafting school, river boarding, canyoning, and a range of other activities. The trips have various levels of difficulty, from Beginner's to Expert level. More than twenty companies offer rafting in the rivers Sjoa, Otta and Gudbrandsdalslågen.

Mountain Farm Life

Many of the mountain farms are in full operation in summer, and you may experience the old ways of mountain farming, taste the farms’ products and participate in guided tours of the farm. Drop-in and organised trips. Some places offer overnight accommodation. For more information, ask at your place of accommodation or one of the tourist offices.
