Restaurants and cafés offer meals based on local ingredients such as seal, whale, reindeer, grouse and arctic char. On rare occasions you may also find polar bear meat on the menu.

At the excellent reataurant Huset in Longyearbyen, you find a large wine collection.

Most people in Longyearbyen dress informally during the day, but often dress up when going to a restaurant in the evening.
