For those wanting to try their luck at fishing during wintertime, it is strongly recommended to book an organized tour. Weather conditions change rapidly and it is too risky to go out in small boats on your own. During winter, fishing tours are being organized on request for smaller groups. Contact one of the local tourist information offices for further information. Vågarbryggå and Smøla Havfiskesenter are two organisers of fishing trips.
During winter, the ocean areas outside of Kristiansund and Nordmøre is rich with herring. Herring is the preferred food for the black and white killer whales/orcas. Once you have seen the playful, beautiful whales you will remember them for life.
In Kristiansund, orca safaris are available for a short periode during winter, as six-day long expeditions (no day trips). Following the fisherboats and the herds of herring, the wait to see the whales are exciting and fun filled. The organizers have been operating orca safaris for almost two decades and are highly skilled in what they do. For more information and booking, contact Strømsholmen Sea Sport Centre.
