Voss is one of Norway's most traditional winter sport venues. The varied mountain terrain around Voss could have been made for winter sports. It is not without reason that Voss has fostered more Olympic participants than any other place in the world.
Through the two ski resorts, Voss offers excellent nursery slopes as well as demanding terrain for the most experienced. There are also excellent facilities for powder snow sports as well as cross-country opportunities. The season is normally from December to April.
Voss ResortThis is a renowned and long-established skiing resort, located in Bavallen (5 kilometres from Voss town centre) with an access point by cable car in 10 - 15 minutes walking distance from Voss town centre. It is a compact and well-run skiing area with 12 lifts, offering slopes suitable for beginners and experts. Voss Resort also features prepared cross-country trails starting at Hanguren Mountain.
Voss FjellandsbyThis resort is located 26 kilometres from Voss centre, in the area of Myrkdalen. Voss Fjellandsby, or Voss Mountain Village, is a new resort that is still in development. It has four lifts, and slopes for the whole family. In this area you find great opportunities for cross-country skiing and trekking both in and out of groomed trails.
New express liftsVoss Resort introduced its new express lift this past season. During the 2008/2009 winter season, Voss Fjellandsby will have a six-seater express lift for the joy of visitors.
Voss 2013 – the FIS Freestyle World ChampionshipsIn May 2008 Voss won the bid for the FIS Freestyle World Championships in 2013. Competitions in the freestyle disciplines will take place at both Voss Resort and Voss Fjellandsby.
