Location

The Geirangerfjord is located in the county of Møre og Romsdal, north in Fjord Norway.

Facts

The Geirangerfjord is a 15-kilometre long fjord that is included on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.  One of Norway’s most visited fjords. Brudesløret (the Bridal Veil) and De syv søstrene are two of the most famous waterfalls diving into the Geirangerfjord.

What to do

Popular activities on and around the fjord are fishing, canoe trips, rafting, riding, summer skiing at Stryn, and of course fjord cruises.

Getting to the Geirangerfjord

From Oslo
The Geirangerfjord lies approximately 455 kilometres northwest of Oslo.

• By bus:
  Daily departures to Ålesund (approximately 10 hours). In Ålesund change to the bus to Geiranger (approximately 110 kilometres). For timetables and booking, please contact Nor-Way Bussekspress.
• By plane:
  Daily departures from Oslo to Ålesund Airport Vigra. Flight time approximately 55 minutes. For timetables and booking, please contact SAS. Continue with the airport bus Ålesund’s main bus station Moa, and then change to the bus to Geiranger.
• By car:
  The drive from Oslo to Geiranger takes approximately seven hours. Follow the E 6 from Oslo to Otta, and then follow Rv 15 to Langvatnet. Here you turn right at Rv 63 and continue down to Geiranger.

From Bergen
The Geirangerfjord lies approximately 345 kilometres north of Bergen.

• By bus:
  Daily departures to Ålesund (approximately nine hours). In Ålesund change to the bus to Geiranger (approximately 110 kilometres). For timetables and booking, please contact Nor-Way Bussekspress.
• By car:
  The drive from Bergen to Geiranger takes approximately six hours (ferries not included). Follow the E 39 from Bergen. Ferries between Oppedal and Lavik. Continue on the E 39 to Byrkjelo via Førde. From Byrkjelo take Rv 60 to Stryn, and from Stryn continue on Rv 15 to Langvatnet. Turn left and follow Rv 63 down to Geiranger.
• By plane:
  Daily departures from Bergen to Ålesund Airport Vigra. Flight time approximately 45 minutes. For timetables and booking, please contact SAS. Continue with the airport bus Ålesund’s main bus station Moa, and then change to the bus to Geiranger.
• By boat:
  During the summer you can take Hurtigruten (the Norwegian Coastal Express) from Bergen to Geiranger. In the winter, Hurtigruten does not enter the Geirangerfjord but goes to Ålesund. You then have to catch a bus from Ålesund to Geiranger (approximately 110 kilometres). For timetables and booking, please contact Hurtigruten.

From Trondheim
The Geirangerfjord lies approximately 380 kilometres southwest of Trondheim.

• By bus:
  Daily departures to Ålesund (approximately eight hours). In Ålesund change to the bus to Geiranger (approximately 110 kilometres). For timetables and booking, please contact Nor-Way Bussekspress.
• By plane:
  Daily departures from Trondheim to Ålesund Airport Vigra. Flight time approximately 45 minutes. For timetables and booking, please contact SAS. Continue with the airport bus Ålesund’s main bus station Moa, and then change for the bus to Geiranger.
• By car:
  The drive from Trondheim to Geiranger takes approximately six hours. Follow the E 6 from Trondheim to Strand, via Dombås. Then follow Rv 15 to Langvatnet, before turning right at Rv 63 down to Geiranger.
• By boat:
  During the summer you can take Hurtigruten (the Norwegian Coastal Express) from Trondheim to Geiranger. In the winter, Hurtigruten does not enter the Geirangerfjord but goes to Ålesund.
