Location

The Nærøyfjord is an arm of the Sognefjord, located in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, in the heart of Fjord Norway, the western part of Norway.

Facts

The Nærøyfjord is 17 kilometres long. It is narrow (at its narrowest it is only 300 metres) and wild, surrounded by 1,700 metres tall mountains. The fjord and its surrounding area are included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Getting to the Nærøyfjord

By round trips
A good way to see the fjords is to join one of several organised round trips. Fjord Tours and Fjord 1 have good selections of high quality round trips in Fjord Norway.

From Oslo
The Nærøyfjord lies approximately 350 kilometres northwest of Oslo.

• By car:
  The drive from Oslo to the Nærøyfjord takes approximately five and a half hours. Follow the E 18 from Oslo to Sandvika. From Sandvika you follow the E 16 to all the way to Gudvangen, passing through Hønefoss, Fagernes, Vang and Borgund.
• By bus:

• By train:
  Take the Bergen Railway from Oslo to Myrdal. Then change to the Flåm Railway that will take you down to Flåm. Total travel time six hours. For timetables and booking, please contact the Norwegian State Railways (NSB) and the Flåm Railway. From Flåm you can either take a boat or the bus to Gudvangen.
• By plane:

From Bergen
The Nærøyfjord lies approximately 150 kilometres north of Bergen.

• By car:
  The drive from Bergen to the Nærøyfjord takes approximately two hours and twenty minutes. Follow E 16 and continue to Voss and Stalheim. From Stalheim you can drive the steep and spectacular hairpin bends of Stalheimskleiva. The road down from Stalheim Hotel has 13 steep bends before you get down to Gudvangen and the Nærøyfjord.
• By bus:

• By train:
  Take the Bergen Railway from Bergen to Myrdal. Then change to the Flåm Railway that will take you down to Flåm. Total travel time a little under three hours. • By plane:

• By boat:
  From 1 May to 30 September express boats run daily from Bergen all the way to Flåm. These boats connect with ferries to Gudvangen, Kaupanger and Lærdal and transfer passengers out in the middle of the fjord. For timetables and booking, please contact Fjord1.

From Trondheim
The Nærøyfjord lies approximately 530 kilometres southwest of Trondheim.

• By car:
  The drive from Trondheim takes approximately seven hours. From Trondheim follow the E 6 southwards some kilometres past Otta. Then follow Rv 257 to Randsverk, and continue on Rv 51 to Fagernes, via Beitostølen. From Fagernes you follow the E 16 all the way to Gudvangen, passing through Vang and Borgund.
