Description

The city is beautifully located between the two lakes Bryggeparken and Hjellevannet. The waterfront is an important part of the townscape, which blends pedestrianised streets, green areas and impressive buildings. 

The Telemark Canal have two locks in Skien, and the first one is in the town centre. 

Skien Church with its two 68 metre-high towers is another important element of the townscape. 

Henrik Ibsen was born in Skien and his childhood home is now today a museum.
