Description

Overlooking the breathtaking Storfjord and the majestic Sunnmøre Alps, Storfjord Hotel is beautifully located high above the village of Glomset and offers traditional and luxurious accommodation. Ideally situated for Aalesund, the airport, and touring the stunning West Coast. One of the finest hand crafted lafta hotels in Western Norway, an ideal retreat to enjoy active pursuits or just relax in the fresh mountain air!

Located in six acres of private grounds amidst thousands of acres of protected forest lying between three mountains and a lake and overlooking the Sunnmøre Alps. We have a jetty and boats including kayaks in Glomset Bay. From the hotel there are beautiful walks in every direction or just a few minutes drive the choice is vast. You can walk for one hour to the top of one of Glomset’s mountains called Hautua with a magnificent view over the village, Storfjorden, Skodje and the Sunnmøre Alps and far beyond. It’s quite a sight in the summer months when some of the largest cruise liners in the world make their way through the fjord with the dramatic backdrop of the Alps. The local mountain walks are suitable for everyone, or for the more adventurous take a ferry crossing to the high rugged mountains of the well known Sunnmøre Alps where you can walk to a great altitude with views over the counties and deep fjords, regarded as one of the best fjord views in Norway.

Storfjord Hotel is handbuilt by skilled craftsmen using traditional Lafta (cross logging with whole timbers), this way of building has been part of Norway’s culture for hundreds of years and houses still stand today after many generations. Today’s modern technology does lend a helping hand but original techniques remain the same. It’s atmosphere and warmth is unique offering traditional and luxurious accommodation. The hotel has six spacious rooms all individual in design and each with luxury bathroom suite and some with classical four poster beds. Every room has a balcony with magnificent views. Dinner is served in the timbered hall and drinks can be enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere on the gallery landing overlooking Glomset Bay, Storfjord and the Alps. A set menu made from local ingredients of the highest quality is prepared by our chef. Meals are planned in advance and any dietry restrictions or vegetarian requests can be catered for.

Touring from the hotel is stunning and dramatic in all directions with the Aalesund and the islands to the west and the dramatic scenery of the fjords and mountains to the east. Storfjorden is the main fjord that connects with Geirangerfjord and Hjørundfjord UNESCO’s Heritage Sites. There are boat excursions to both fjords.
