Description

Ernest Cole (1940-1990) was one of South Africa's first black photojournalists. He believed that with the help of photography he could tell the world what it was like to be black under the apartheid system. Between 1958 and 1966 he photographed with courage and compassion daily life for the majority of the black population. Daily life was their racist oppression and a life ruled by apartheid laws.
