Before, now and afterwards
To reflect on the time spent is at the core of any museum, and managing and maintaining an art collection is in many ways working against time. Among other things, make artwork to last as long as possible, but also to tell and investigate stories of the past. To purchase works of the collection act in many ways to lift some stuff out of the present because it is important to preserve them for posterity.
In this exhibition we show a selection of contemporary art that is incorporated into the museum's collection over the past 4-5 years. SKMU bought the works of numerous artists with ties to the region as well as some national and Nordic names. The exhibition thus provides a good insight into the purchasing policy of the museum in the past five years. Here we show textile art, video art, photography, drawing, ceramics and more. Many of the works also explores time, either that particular moment, as part of an artistic process, which inevitably weathering, or by looking at the story as an opportunity to innovate.
