Description

"The new house has become so beautiful; you have to see it to believe it. (...) I couldn't possibly get it any closer to my taste."

This is how Sigrid Undset described her home in a letter to her friend.

Experience the atmosphere and surroundings where Sigrid Unset (1882-1949) produced some of her most renowned works.

The enthusiastic and prolific author spent most of her adult life at Bjerkebæk. She lived here with her three children and several maids.

In the old log buildings she wrote the powerful medieval novels about Kristin Lavransdatter and Olav Audunssøn, and in 1928 she was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Enjoy a guided tour of her home, and discover how Undset lived and worked. In the main visitor’s area are exhibitions and films about Sigrid Undset, as well as a well-stocked shop and welcoming café.
