Description

Aulestad is one of the best preserved artist homes in Norway. The Nobel laureate Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson lived here with his family from 1875 until his death in 1910. In 1935, Aulestad became a museum.

Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, the man who wrote the national anthem, was an enthusiastic and committed soul. Today, visitors to Aulestad can experience the environment and surroundings from which he drew his inspiration.

Guided tour and gardens

Karoline was married to Bjørnstjerne for over 50 years, and she created an urban European home in the very heart of rural Norway. A warm and welcoming home, surrounded by parks and gardens.

Exhibition, café and museum

After a visit to the house and the summer exhibition in Vognskjulet, visitors can enjoy a "Bjørnson blueberry pancake" or Aulestad's “heavenly cheesecake" in Drengestua. The museum shop offers literary souvenirs and other Aulestad memorabilia.

The Bjørnson road

"I wonder what I might see across the high mountains," Bjørnson wrote. Follow the Bjørnson Road and find the answer. The Bjørnson Road is the name of route 255 between Lillehammer and Vinstra. Along the road are museums, theatres, galleries, cheese makers, smokehouses and lots more.
