Spitsbergen Trekking is a five day nature experience, walking among rising peaks and mighty glaciers, with a camp site next to the Svea glacier in Ekmanfjorden, in the west of Spitsbergen.
Spitsbergen Isfjorden Kayak expedition is a six day long journey on the island’s largest fjord. Isfjorden stretches 107 kilometres towards the centre of Spitsbergen, and in order to avoid most of the boat traffic the expedition is plotting its course along the north-western side of the fjord. With its many inlets and seven mighty glacier fronts this is an alluring universe. The silence is overpowering, only broken by your paddle strokes and nature’s own sounds. A curious seal maybe, the noise of hatching sea birds or the amazing sound of glaciers cracking and calving.
Easy and short trip suitable for most people. The trip starts by the dog yard in Longyearbyen, where in the summer there is a rich bird life. We follo...
A ski expedition during the Svalbard winter offers some of the most demanding conditions you can find in the Polar Regions. The variations in terrain, temperature, and wind make this the complete polar expedition. You will travel over sea ice, glaciers, wide valleys and moraines, and the fact that the polar bears out number you adds an extra bit of excitement.
Every Sunday we will give you the opportunity to visit Ny-Ålesund. This is a former mining town and also starting point for famous explorers race to the North pole. Roald Amundsen, known as the first person, both to the South- and North-pole, used Ny-Ålesund as his starting point when he reached the pole in 1926 with the Airship NORGE.
Please note that due to ice conditions in Billefjorden the ships will not reach Pyramiden before end of May.
As an alternative we follow the ice edge hunting for walrus, seals and the king of arctic.
The Russian mining settlement Pyramiden was abandoned in 1998, leaving the buildings and infrastructure intact. We pass close by the bird cliffs at Diabas before we reach Tempelfjorden and the cathedral-like mountain, Tempelfjellet. We head towards the Nordenskiöldbreen and whilst you enjoy the view, a warm barbequed lunch is served. We investigate the once so well groomed settlement. We follow the north side of the fjord and can reflect over the tragic winter in Svenskhuset at Kapp Thordsen.
With the midnight sun on our bow we glide into the bay, right up to the magnificent Bore Glacier.
Early in the season the sea ice may still lie thick on the fjord, preventing og us from reaching the glacier itself. However, in exchange for this we may be lucky as to see seals sunbathing on the ice under the spring sun which refuses to set.
By the ice we will serve supper from the barbecue.
