The Vesterålen Museum was founded on the basis of a private initiative in the 1920’s. At that time it was located in Rødgården House in Melbu town centre, a building dating back to the 1700’s that was moved there for that purpose. Today, the Vesterålen Museum has been re-established in the venerable, old Melbu Hovedgård mansion.

Bø Museum

The Museum in Bø is beautifully located by the sea, in a landscape where fairytale characters still are alive. The female "hulder" and the "draugen", a creature living in the sea are to be seen by those who have patience and a vivid imagination.

Norwegian Fishing Industry Museum

The national fishing industry museum was established in the spring of 1991 as a public institution, and was named Norsk Fiskeindustrimuseum. The University of Tromsø, University of Bergen, NHH Bergen, Norges sildesalgslag, Sildemelfabrikkenes landsforening, LO, SND, Vesterålen regionråd, Hadsel kommune, Melbu Fiskeindustri, Vesterålsmuseet and NAKV are members of the institution.

Andøy museum

The Polar Museum is situated in Fyrvika cove, not far from Andenes Lighthouse and Whale Safari Andenes. An exhibition from the polar regions is on show here, with emphasis on the life of hunter Hilmar Nøis, who spent 38 winters in Spitsbergen.

Jennestad old trading post - Museum Nord

The old Trading Post at Jennestad (8 km from Sortland): An old trading post, located by the sea, easily accessible by boat – as it should be in the old days. Time has stood still after the closing of the shop in 1982. The shelves offers authentic products of all kinds, and you may also visit the old post office and ship expedition office. Free entrance. Visitors may buy locally produced arts and crafts (husflid), postcards, sweets, literature and more. Nearby art gallery (100 m) also well worth a visit.


Sortland Camping og Motell NAF

Sortland Camping og Motell is situated very central in Sortland, a short distance to the city centre and with a beautiful view towards the fjord and the mountains. Sortland is a starting point for day trips in the Vesterålen and Lofoten archipelago, and to Harstad and Narvik towns.

Andenes Camping lies in a beautiful spot near the road into Andenes. There's a fantastic ocean view to enjoy once you have parked and the peaceful atmosphere can settle.


The yellow house at Loviktunet

Would you like to stay by the sea in a traditional house from 1750 with great views. Restored in 2012.
