Cycling routes

There are sign-posted cycle-routes in many parts of Norway. Choose among our recommended routes.

They are charted on special cyclist maps that you can buy from Bike Norway or at tourist offices or bookstores along the route. The routes are signposted and follow roads that have little or no automobile traffic. You will find places to rent cycles and cycle-friendly accommodation along the routes.

Experience Rallarvegen ("The navvies road") with Fjord Tours

Rallarvegen is one of the most scenic cycle rides from "the roof of Norway" right down to the fjord - quite an experience! As the name suggests the name Rallarvegen dates from the time the navvies used it as a road during the construction of the Bergen Railway.
More information on Rallarvegen.

The North Sea Cycleway

Passes through several towns along the coast. Flat terrain, few inclines except the stretch Flekkefjord - Ogna. Little or no traffic at all. Gravel or asphalt surfaces. Mountain bikes not necessary. More information on The North Sea Cycleway.

The Lofoten Islands and The Vestfjord route

Bodø-Kjerringøy-Steigen-Hamarøy-Lofoten-Værøy.
The routes generally follow the coast with few uphill sections. Some sections are gravelled. There is little traffic in Raftsund and Steigen. Heavy traffic along the E10 in The Lofoten Islands in July. Mountain bikes not necessary. More information on The Lofoten Islands and The Vestfjord route.

Kristiandsand and Southern Norway

The section from Kristiansand to Bykli is relatively flat and easy to cycle. From there you have to climb the steep hills to Bykle. Now you will cycle in mountain terrain, 700 – 800 meters above sea level. At Sæsvatn, the routes highest above sea level is 917 meters. More information on Krisitansand and Southern Norway.

Voss-Bergen

The bike routes between Voss and Bergen are quiet, low traffic roads that ribbon through majestic mountains and clear blue waters of the fjords. National bike route nr. 4 through Eksingedalen is unique. More information on Voss-Bergen.

Other especially friendly bicycle destinations are Smøla, Rauland and Sandnes.

These routes are only a few of many. More routes and other information on biking in Norway at Bike Norway.
