It all began in the Norwegian mountain village of Morgedal over three hundred years ago. With daring skiing competitions, ski jumps and swings, Sondre Norheim taught the whole world Telemark skiing.
Telemark skiing differs from regular alpine skiing in style and equipment. Your heel is loose when Telemark skiing.
As recreational skiing became more commercialised, and with the growth of ski resorts, the Telemark technique failed to catch on. By the 1950s and 1960s, the Telemark turn was almost a forgotten technique.
Today there are Telemark skiers all around the world. You can easily spot them when they “dance” their way down the slopes.
Check your resort for available lessons to learn how to master this different way of skiing.
