Fortresses

Oscarsborg fortress outside of Drøbak in the Oslofjord is one of the famous fortresses in Norway.

The most famous of the fortresses is Akershus Fortress and Castle in Oslo, followed closely by Fredriksten Fortress in Halden. In Fredrikstad, there is Gamle Fredrikstad, the old town which in its entirety is considered a fortress, plus Kongsten.

In Bergen there is Bergenhus, in Trondheim Kristiansten, and way up north you can visit Vardøhus. Kongsvinger was built to secure the Swedish border in the east. Outside of Drøbak you will find Oscarsborg fortress. And that is just to mention a few. Today the forts are often used to create a special setting for local performances such as concerts and historical plays.
