Shopping in the Hamar Region

In the center of Hamar you will find different shops - from large chain stores to small boutiques and delicatessens.

Hamar town center has a wide assortment of tempting shops, ranging from specialist shops to big shopping centres. It is also home to one of Norway's best fish shops. Car parking is just east of the town centre, alongside Mjøsa lake. The towns of Moelv and Brumunddal also have a wide variety of boutiques, cafés and bars. All the towns are easy to reach by bus or train.

At Husfliden Hamar in the pedestrian street, you can buy traditional Norwegian 'bunad' costumes and other quality products. Husfliden represents Norwegian handicrafts tradition, in which exciting new designs are blended with old tradition.

Løiten Lys is in the old distillery at Løiten Brænderi, and is one of Norway's biggest manufacturers of hand-made, creative candles. The same premises also contain handicraft products, souvenirs, gifts, an antiquarian bookshop, a café and a restaurant.

Alm Østre is one of the oldest biodynamic farms in Norway. It cultivates about 35 different types of organic vegetables, selling them at outlets such as the farm shop. The shop is open two days a week from August until the end of the year. As well as a large, colourful selection of vegetables, you can buy honey, eggs, freshly ground flour and meat such as pork and beef from the farm's own animals.

Edel Design sells clothes made from pure natural materials, all are designed and made at Alhaug farm. The gallery on the farm is open all year round. It has a huge range of men's and women's clothes that are guaranteed to attract compliments.

Skafferiet at Hovinsholm is a café and country store on Hovinsholm farm at the southernmost tip of Helgøya island. Open all year round, the shop sells food products from the local area, garden equipment, interior design articles, furniture, linen products, clothes, shoes and children's clothes, in a rural, charming and nostalgic style. Some of the products from Skafferiet are made on the premises, some come from the local area, and others are bought in from various Scandinavian suppliers. Many of the products are organic and environmentally friendly.

Åske Nordre farm is where Braastad's apple juice is produced. The juice is completely additive-free, is served at local cafés and restaurants and sold in bottles and 'bag-in-box' packs from the farm shop and other places. The shop also sells home-made ice cream and sorbets, apples, eggs, potatoes, honey, flour, blackcurrant juice and herbs, tea, smoked sausages, ham, cheese and much more. The shop is open every Saturday from March 8 to mid-December, and every Thursday from mid-September onwards, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
