Aursjøen culture trail
This is a path that gives you a nice walk, while you learn about how people struggled to water their fields and crops in earlier times. Annual rainfall in the district is like in the Sahara desert, approximately 300 mm a year. Information boards along the route give you information about the old spectacular irrigation system. The walk follows a man made ditch at the beginning, dug out to bring the lifegiving water from the mountains to the fields down in the valley. At the small Flåtåtjønn Lake, a dam was constructed to collect melting water; here it is also possible to spot the remnants of a reindeer pitfall system.
Halfway you find a small open stone hut, where you can prepare a cup of coffee or tea.
The place is suitable for a stop, it is advisable to bring a packed lunch. Have a pleasant walk, please take care not harming anything. The irrigation system is still being used.
