Tour suggestions in the Fjell & Fjord region

Experience the beautiful capital of Norway, the high mountains, the deep blue fjords and the world heritage city Bergen, all in just a few days.

Norway in a nutshell®

Fjord Tours' Norway in a nutshell® is the most popular round trip in Norway. The tour is available from Bergen, Voss and Oslo all year and includes:

  • The scenic Bergen Railway, Northern Europe’s highest altitude railway line.
  • The breathtaking Flåm Railway, a masterpiece of engineering.
  • The Aurlandsfjord and the Nærøyfjord – the latter of which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the narrowest fjords in Europe.
  • The hairpin bends of Stalheimskleiva, one of the steepest road stretches in Northern Europe.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site Circuit

The Fjell & Fjord region is an excellent starting point to visit three unique attractions included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Hardanger National Tourist Route

Rv. 7 between Halne and Tokagjelet is designated as the Hardanger National Tourist Route. This scenic road goes across Hardangervidda, one of Europe’s largest mountain plateaus, and continues along the stunning Hardangerfjord.

The dramatically steep waterfall Vøringsfossen marks the precipitous descent from the mountains to the valleys and fjords.

The Aurland Road

The mountain road between Aurland and Lærdal (rv. 243) takes you from sea level to an altitude of 1,333 metres. As there is often snow on either side of the road, even in the middle of summer, it is known as the "Snow Road". The architecturally interesting viewpoint at Stegastein provides panoramic views of the Aurlandsfjord.

The Fanitull Road

The Fanitull Road (33 kilometres) crosses the mountains between Hemsedal and Leveld in Ål. The road makes its way through the beautiful countryside between the peaks of Lauvdalsbrea and Reineskarvet, with plenty of great places to stop for a break. Or perhaps you prefer to climb a mountain, such as Lauvdalsbrea?
