From Røldal, one of northern Europe's highest resorts, 800 metres above sea level, six lifts transport you all the way to 1,300 metres above sea level. The entire resort is situated above the treeline, offering wide open areas for skiing and riding. Due to the unique high-Alpine environment, the number of prepared runs will vary, but normally around a dozen runs totaling 15 kilometres are open.
The lifts can carry 5,680 persons per hour, and the transport time from base to summit is around 10 minutes.
The season lasts from November/December until mid-May. Average annual snowfall is 1,100 centimetres (440 inches).
Ski pass prices for the 2011-2012 season.
Ski rental is available at the resort. Prices start at 300 NOK for a day for a complete Alpine package.
Røldal Ski Service offers tuition and ski fun for adults, children, groups and companies, as well as child care. Contact Jan Åge Stengårdsbakken on (+47) 48 16 44 87 on by email at jaaste@c2h.no. Remember to book in advance.
From week seven until Easter, cross-country trails are prepared to Røldalssåto, 1,422 metres above sea level, about 10 kilometres one way. There is also a shorter trail in the valley. Other prepared and flood-lit trails for cross-country skiing can be found in Røldal centre and at Seljestad, five minutes from the resort.
