"Nobody owns their own mountain in England," says Spinx. "It is not so unusual here," smiles Rønnaug, the owner of the farm.
The fjord horses are ready. They usually are. They are strong, calm and patient horses. They walk up steep hills, in total control. Spinx needs a few tries before he is able to get on horseback. Eventually he makes it.
The ride up the steep mountain side in morning mist is a fairytale-like experience. The horses really are strong. You get to stop to take in the view of the fjord on your way to the mountain top. A little while later, we pass the tree line and breathe in the fresh mountain air. We can see all the way to Stavanger, and further into the fjord. Tjøstheim Ridesenter offers riding trips and riding classes, all with fjord and mountain scenery as a background. Contact the farm at post@tjostheimgard.no
