Skiing
With unspoiled scenery, a snowboard park and floodlit slopes for downhill skiing and floodlit cross-country skiing tracks, Sauda offers fun skiing for the entire family. In Sauda, excellent skiing is virtually guaranteed from the New Year and well into April.
In Sauda you can find up to 190 kilometres of prepared and marked cross-country trails. The Gullingområdet of Suldal offers up to 51 kilometres of prepared trails, depending on snow conditions.
Alpine skiing and snowboarding gear is available for hire for both adults and children. So are snowblades and snowshoes.
Ski instruction for adults and children is available, contact Sauda Tourist Office for more information.
There are often good skiing conditions in other parts of the region; contact the tourist offices for more information.
Ski boat and hiking
Down by the fjord, the snow rarely lingers, and spring appears early. If you want the best of both worlds, you can take the boat to your skiing destination in Ryfylke. The ski boat from Stavanger to Sauda includes a day pass to the ski lifts, and there is a free ski bus from Sauda town centre to the Svandalen and Sauda ski resorts.
An excellent alternative is to explore the hiking trails along the fjord on foot, with lunch and something warm to drink in your backpack. Or just lean back and enjoy the view from the sightseeing boat that sails the famous Lysefjord every Saturday throughout the winter.
Winter fishing
Winter is a great time for fishing in the ice free fjords, especially near the islands and in the heart of Ryfylke. Afterwards, you can relax in front of the fire in a warm cabin, enjoy a sauna or a hot tub.
Other activities
Saudahallen offers different types of pools, diving boards, sauna, water slides and a sports hall as well as a gym. In addition one can attend after-ski, activities for groups and guided tours. There are different activities during the weekends throughout the season.
Accommodation
In Sauda there are three hotels with capacity of 150 beds in total. In addition there are camp sites with cabins and chaltets for private hire. The accommodation is a short distance from the town centre in Sauda. Contact Sauda Tourist Office for more information.
