What to do in the Hardangerfjord Region

Hiking on Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau, glacier walking on Folgefonna and fjord cruises are popular ways of experiencing this region of contrast.

Spring Activities

Experience two seasons in one weekend. Cross Folgefonna during the spring thaw, and keep that wintry feeling as the excitement builds. Hardanger is characterised by diversity, and in spring, as the mountains and fjord merge, is when the most amazing contrasts can be experienced.

Summer Activities

When the orchards have blossomed, summer has truly arrived. Cruise ships from every corner of the world call on the port. Seaplanes and helicopters carry thousands across the glacier, mountains, plateaus, waterfalls and fjord, and a range of activities is on offer.

Autumn Activities

Hiking on the Hardangervidda mountain plateau, you experience mountain lakes, rivers, angling, glacier-climbing and intimate moments. By foot from cabin to cabin, on a bike or on horseback. Numerous adventures are on offer, whether you follow you own path, opt for one of the excellent mapped-out routes or explore Rallarvegen. Hunting enthusiasts will find small game readily available, and hikers will visit their favourite spots abound with cloudberries. Down at the farms, children can enjoy cherries, apples, pears and plums.

Winter activities

Winter is maybe Hardanger’s most underrated season. As some of us follow a ski track to a sunny spot in peaceful surroundings, the more adventurous will challenge each other down the steep hills or on the Hardangervidda plateau - "kiting". Over the past few years, several highly popular alpine centres have created new traditions.  Røldal and is one of them. In the vibrant and interactive Experience Centre in Eidfjord, you can be part of both nature and traditions.
