Seasons and Climate in Trøndelag

From late June to early August the weather is at its warmest and it never seems to get really dark.

Trøndelag has a varied climate and gets some of the coldest winters in Norway, but also very pleasant and balmy summer days. Find out what clothes to pack when planning your holiday in Trøndelag, check out recent snow reports for your destination or go to weather forecast for Trøndelag.

Summer

Late June to early August is when summer is at its peak. This is when the weather is at its most stable and warmest with sunny, long and bright days.

Temperatures can sometimes reach as high as 77°F - 86°F. At the same time there is hardly any humidity in the air.

Fall

During September and October the landscape is painted in red and yellow colors, and nature is full of berries and mushrooms. At the same time, the days become shorter, darkness descends early in the afternoon and temperatures drop.

Winter

You can expect winter in Trøndelag from November until April. Especially its inland regions such as Oppdal, Røros and Dovrefjell enjoy cold wintry weather with an abundance of snow.

The coastal areas have much milder winters thanks to the Gulf Stream and warm air currents caused by the coriolis effect. However, gales, rain and cloud are likely to hit the coastal areas during winter.

Spring

In May flowers are blooming, the trees are budding and you can feel spring virtually exploding all around you.

Remember that the weather and temperatures can change quickly, especially in the mountains. So whether summer or winter, autumn or spring – bring good footwear and warm clothes.
