Toll roads and AutoPASS

There are around 50 toll stations in Norway. Most of them have automatic fee collection and some have lanes for AutoPASS and for manual payment.

Pay your toll fee online

  • By registering your credit card online, you pre-pay a set amount which is deducted from your card. You may then pass through all toll stations marked AutoPASS without stopping. Please note that your credit card must be valid for the following three months.
  • When you pass a toll point the correct amount is automatically withdrawn from your pre-paid account. The unused amount is refunded your credit card 85 days later.
  • You can register your credit card in advance or up to three days after your first toll point pass.

Automatic toll stations

Most toll stations in Norway are automatic. Here you can simply pass through without stopping. A photo is taken of your vehicle's registration number, and the correct amount is automatically debited from your account. If you have not registered your credit card online, you can stop and pay at a nearby petrol station - follow the sign marked "KR-service".

If you do not stop and pay within three working days you will receive an invoice by post with no extra charge. Vehicles not registered in Norway are invoiced through Euro Parking Collection plc (EPC) in London.

For more information, please visit autopass.no.

Compulsary toll tag

From 1 January 2015 all commercial vehicles over 3,5 tonnes, whether Norwegian or foreign, must have a correctly installed toll tag in order to avoid a heavy fine. This includes recreational vehicles that are rented, even if they are rented abroad, and it is the driver's responsibility to make sure that such a tag is installed.

The tag itself is free, but a refundable deposit of NOK 200 must be paid.

For more information on the toll tag, or to aquire one, please see the AutoPass website about the tag.

Other toll stations

Other toll stations have AutoPASS-lanes and lanes for manual payment. Please be aware that you risk a fine if you drive through in the AutoPASS-lanes without an AutoPASS contract or without registering your credit card online.
