Join Fjord1 for an adventure along the Coast of Fjords

Choose from a selection of exciting round trips by express boat from Bergen to the Coast of Fjords and the famous Sognefjord.

From Bergen our express boat service whisks you effortlessly to the coast of Sogn and Fjordane and deep into the Sognefjord to Sogndal and Flåm with the world-famous Flåm Railway. Ashore, attractions, eating establishments and accommodation are all within easy walking distance. On board our express boats, just sit back and relax in comfort and take in the stunning scenery we pass by, while perhaps enjoying a tasty meal and refreshments.

The Sognefjord in a nutshell

This is the royal tour – a five-hour cruise on the world's second longest fjord, followed by the most dramatic railway experience in all of Europe. The express boat passes beautiful islands north of Bergen, and then sails along most of the length of the Sognefjord before entering the magnificent Aurlandsfjord. Innermost lies the village of Flåm.

The Flåm Railway is a masterpiece of engineering – and a fantastic adventure. The train hugs the mountainside, going through 20 tunnels and passing waterfalls and canyons as it ascends 866 metres to Myrdal. There you transfer on to Bergen Railway and enjoy another scenic train ride – westward to Bergen. Or you can take the tour in the reverse order if you prefer, starting out with a railway adventure, before sailing the Sognefjord.

Period: Daily 1 May – 30 September
Price 2011: Round trip from Bergen from NOK 1,190

The World Heritage Tour – The Sognefjord and the Nærøyfjord

We guarantee this journey will give you something to write home about. Sail by express boat from Bergen, along the coast and deep into the Sognefjord. In the middle of the fjord you transfer to a ferry, before continuing towards the magnificent Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This unspoiled fjord is the narrowest in the world.

At a slow pace we sail past isolated farms and hamlets, between mountains that rise 1,800 metres above the fjords, and into Gudvangen. From here a bus takes you on a scenic ride to Voss, where you will get the train back to Bergen.

Period: Daily 1 June – 31 August

“Island hopping” from Bergen

There are many islands to explore along the coast of Western Norway. Our excursion takes you to some of those island highlights. Visit Bulandet, an amazing archipelago of 365 islands, and the old fishing village and trading post of Gåsvær. Experience first-hand this wild landscape facing the sea, with a myriad of skerries and islands sculpted by storms. The only thing you have to decide is whether to stay hours, days or weeks.

From Bergen to Norway’s largest glacier

What could be a more rewarding day than a long fjord cruise, passing a charming village on the way, and taking a first-hand look at a glacier? That is what we invite you to experience. Take the express boat from Bergen through a scenic landscape of islands and skerries, sailing the Sognefjord to Balestrand. This village is a favourite amongst artists, known for its eye-catching architecture, its view of the fjord and snow-clad mountains.

From Balestrand a ferry takes you to the pristine Fjærlandsfjord. In Fjærland we first visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum, where you will learn about the history and inner life of glaciers. Don’t miss the exhibition about climate changes: “Our fragile climate”. Then the tour continues by bus up to Bøyabreen, an arm of the huge Jostedalsbreen Glacier. On your return cruise to Bergen, you will better understand the impact glacial ice had on the formation of the fjords you sail on – did you know for example that the ice carved away 5,400 cubic kilometres of land to form the Sognefjord and its fjord arms?

Period: Daily 1 June – 31 August
