The Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF) is the biggest in Norway and one of the most important documentary film events in the Nordic region. The BIFF festival programme consists of an interesting mix of new feature and documentary films. With over 150 titles and around 50,000 visitors, it has become the largest film festival in Norway. The festival goes back to the year 2000, when Bergen was the European Capital of Culture. It was arranged by Bergen Cinema and showcased the most important films from the festival circuit of the year as well as many sneak previews of movies that had been earmarked for Norwegian distribution. BIFF had almost 20,000 visitors, making it one of the most successful events during the year.
Bergen is known for the Hanseatic wharf Bryggen, the fish market, and the surrounding landscape with mountains and fjords such as the Hardangerfjord and Sognefjord. Bergen has a vibrant cultural life and hosts a variety of annual events, from art and music festivals to football matches at Brann Stadium.
