The Norwegian International Film Festival is a well-established festival that celebrates its 42th year in 2014. The festival showcases the best of Norwegian and international movies, most of which have been distributed in Norway – but also a limited number of foreign films that are of interest to a Scandinavian audience. The winners of the Amanda Awards (the “Norwegian Oscars"), are also announced during the festival.
The selection of films is carried out in close cooperation with Scandinavian distributors and Nordic sales agents. The renowned Norwegian actress and director Liv Ullman is the festival’s Honorary President.
Participation is restricted to film and cinema professionals, members of the press/media and official representatives of local and national government bodies. Accreditation should be completed by the end of June by filling out the accreditation form or by application to: The Norwegian International Film Festival, P.O. Box 145, N-5501 Haugesund, Norway.
Haugesund, situated close to the fjords and mountains in Fjord Norway, is Norway’s film festival center. The city has an interesting history of sea travel and fishing, and is today a thriving modern town with plenty of cultural events throughout the year. The town center has a wide selection of restaurants, pubs and fine hotels within easy reach. Thanks to the annual film festival, Haugesund has earned the nickname "the Nordic Cannes".
