SALT uses the nature and history of the Arctic regions to create a unique and inspiring cultural platform that offers its audience a mix of art, architecture, music and food in a magnificent scenery. Founded in 2010 by renowned curator Helga-Marie Nordby and cultural entrepreneur Erlend Mogård Larsen, the festival has occurred every second year since 1999 in the Lofoten Islands, Northern Norway.

The year-long edition of SALT 2014 begins at Sandhornøy's beach near Bodø on 29 August. During the opening weekend, day visitors will have the chance to see SALT's architectural highlight inspired by traditional Norwegian fish racks, enjoy music and screenings, and use a sauna. Chinese filmmaker Yang Fudong's installation "The Light That I Feel" and concerts by Artic Symphonic orchestra, DJ Are Mokkelsbost and the all-female Ensemble Ylajali choir will be followed on the second night by performances by Biosphere, Wardruna, Slagr and Elle Marja Eira.

The festival focuses on Arctic Norway this year before travelling across many other Arctic regions around the world over the next few years.
