Description

Length: 1) ca. 4 km, 2) ca. 2,5 km per way
Duration: 1) ca. 15 min up
Altitude difference: 1) ca. 350 m, 2) ca. 100 meters
Suitable for children: 1) + 2) high
Parking: 1) at the southern end of Paradisfjorden (toll road, NOK 40,- in 2010), 2) at the top of the new cabin area at Stavadal (on the northern hillside), toll NOK 30,- in 2010

1) Exit from road 51 towards Merket and take the toll road to Paradis. At the southern end of Paradisfjorden turn right towards Eidvasstølen and park to the left at the road’s end. The route to Makalaus is unsigned and unmarked, but the path is easy to follow. Take the farm road to the right until you pass by a hut (appr. 300 meters). The path passes the hut and turns into a tractor road that leads up to Makalausstølen. Here it turns again into a path that leads up to the summit of Makalaus. The view from the highest point is “flawless”, as
“makalaus” translates to English.
2) Alternatively you can take the road from Reinli towards Stavadal and Nørdre Fjellstølen. Turn right towards Liaåsen and take the first exit to the left to the top of the new cabin area east of the alpine slopes at Stavadal. Hold to the right and park at the road’s end near the pumping hut. The path (unsigned and unmarked) starts to the right and leads past the highpoint at 1091 m to the top of Makalaus (tour log). You can also park at the bottom of the alpine slopes and ascend (steep) to the top where you meet the path. No toll on this alternative.
