Description

Composer Fartein valen’s home is located a half-hour’s drive north of haugesund town centre, and is just before Bømlafjord tunnel. Fartein valen was among the most well known norwegian composers, but was probably more recognised for his work abroad than at home. the house and its contents are well preserved and reflect much musical history. Worth mentioning are all the paint- ingssigned by his close friend agnes hiorth.
Not far from the house is the "Cemetery by the Sea", where he is buried, and where the Norwegian Association of Composers has erected a monument in his memory. Concerts and talks are arranged in the Fartein Valen house during the summer.
