Description

Great hike to Hjelmkonna, 846 meters above sea level. Old mining history and unique botany.

Start by Botnabua (old shop, parking). Follow gravel road to the farm "Robert Hill" and past "vannhus". From here, follow the sign path through the wooded terrain. The first party has a small visible trail but the trail is well marked. Some marsh before going on to the more mountainous terrain. The trail passes Krokvatnet lake, great for a break. Further along, meet the path going from the Engli. After Krokvatnet Lake starts on the steepest part of the trip, up past a water hole on the right (nice to take a bath) and a large creek a little further out (easy to get over). Old days mining area, remnants of the road that carried the minerals to Valsøybotn. From here, across a footbridge over the stream before moving into the area. Remember to tread carefully (botanical area). Great views in all directions, especially if you go the very top. MRK! Path is not marked to the top.

The tour is demanding. Not difficult but one should be in good physical conditions. 5-6 hrs total, ca 800 m altitude, ca 5-6 km each way.

The tour can be combined with KNT their trails to Tverrlihytta, Hjelmen or Settemsdalen.
