Description

The salmon roe is only a few millimetres, and yet it is still big enough to create some of Norway’s most important industries. Did you know that Norwegian salmon is enjoyed by 12 million people in 100 countries every day(!), and is one of our most renowned products in the world? Salmon farming also provides opportunities, power and settlement along the coast of Norway, and is together with fishery the most important industry in Vesterålen.

Akvakultur i Vesterålen is a new adventure center for aquaculture. We are localized in the little village Blokken in Sortland. It takes about 30 minutes to drive there from the center of Sortland. At our facility you get to go out to sea and visit our fish farm. In the new exhibitions we give you the story of Norwegian aquaculture industry from the early beginning in the 50’s and 60’s until today with hightech operation. We have a tunnel that kids can crawl through, computer games, under water cameras, exciting films and a 12 meters long map made from glass where every light shows where there is fish farming in all of northern Norway. And everyone who wants gets to taste the fish!
