Description

This is an option if you would like to have a full day in the magnificent Svalbard nature. A normal good physical condition is necessary. Previous experience is not required. Our guide will meet you at the reception of our hotel and will provide you all the necessary equipment for the trip. Take always special consideration of the wind and the weather on Svalbard and take a bag with extra clothes for the cold days. Transport out to the Trappers station in Bolterdalen, where our dog yard is located, takes around 10 minutes. The Trapper’s station is located at the feet of the mountain Breinosa. Here you will meet our 90 happy Alaskan huskies. All of our dogs are very friendly and eager to run!
You will learn the basis of dog driving. You will harness your own dogs and prepare your team for the trip. 1 person per dog team.
The guide chooses the day’s route depending on the weather and snow conditions. There are several options, such as Adventdalen, Endalen or Bolterdalen. From a dog sledge you have the opportunity to enjoy the fantastic Svalbard nature and the silence is audible as long as the dog team is moving. Back at the dog yard you unharness your dogs and place them back at their houses. We will then go into the trappers hut and enjoy a cup of warm drink before returning to Longyearbyen.
