Description

Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (The Henie Onstad Art Centre) stands on a spit, Høvikodden, just outside of Oslo, in a park with an area of approximately one square kilometre that was given to the municipality of Bærum in order to establish the centre in 1968.

The Art Centre

HOK was established in 1968 after a donation from Niels Onstad and Sonja Henie. Right from the start it was defined as an art centre instead of a museum, signalling the intention to remain an active producer of contemporary, experimental art. The institution was also expected to manage a large collection of modernist art. Today HOK is a leading institution in the field of international contemporary and 20th century art. HOK is an active arena for debates and has a unique expertise in the field of interdisciplinary art, with an emphasis on the relationship between the visual arts, music, performance and avant-garde.

The sculpture park

The park is has a unique setting near the ocean with hiking trails, docks and bathing spots, and for years has functioned as a sculpture park where Henie Onstad Art Centre places sculptures; some as fixed installations, other more temporary, related to various exhibitions.

Tours

Guided tours are held at 13.00 every Sunday throughout the year. On Sundays in July and August, you may also take a guided tour in the sculpture park at 12.00. The tours are free and bookings are not required.
