Description

Hiking trip up alongside the steep Stølsveggen next to Langfoss with a beautiful view at the top. You can take this hiking trip by your own or with a guide.

Langfossen is the 5. highest in Norway and has a 600 meter fall to Åkrafjorden. In March 2011 CNN/ Travel named Langfossen to one of the worlds 10 most beautiful waterfalls in the world!

Follow the road alongside the river and under the new E-134, take a right up the grashill before the waterfall. At the top of the mountain ridge the path is easy to find. It is easy to walk, but at Løyning you have already walked 300 meters high.

The path continues in the same direction against south-west and to Saltedalen. From Saltedalen you follow the old path and arrive to the T-marked path before the path splits in Langfossdalen. When the path flattens out, there is a big rock that’s called Vaulakyrkja. From here you can see the river that later became Langfoss at the edge of the fjord. The path down the valley is at the north-east side of the river. It’s marked properly and easy to walk.

Almost at the edge you pass Langfosstølen that is under the mountain. From here on it is important to follow the path, which is the only path you can walk on. Shorty after the pasture the path swings east from the river and up to Vardehaugen. The view from here can not be described. The path down the mountain side is good to walk on thanks to generations of wearing. The road back to the car is also nice to walk on if you choose the old road from Eljarvik.

Arrival from Haugesund: E134: 89 km (1 hour and 15 minutes)

Parking and startingpoint: At Åkrafjordtunet at highway E39,right beside Langfoss (the waterfall)

Estimated time: 4 hours - up and down

Etne – Saudafjella is 881 meters above sea level
