Fredrikstadmarka - Fredrikstad Common Either walk or go by bike, open and varied landscape, well signposted. Her you will find mountains and marshland, woods, streams and beautiful tarns.
Between 3 and 4 hours by foot, depending on number of brakes you take.
Start at the road barrier in Bjørndalsveien, near the southernmost of the Bjørndal dams (constructed as water reser-voirs in the 1870`s.) The footpath leads to the beautiful Borredalsvannet (water-reservoir - no swimming!), and past the runs of the abandoned Øvre Bjørndalen farm. The remains of Borredalen cotters farm lie on a rise north of the reservoir.
Walk a little further, then turn left up a stone ascending path. Harehytta (Hare Cabin) was once located here. You are now 112 meters above sea level, with magnificent views of Hvaler and parts of Borge. You can see as far as Fredriksten Fort in Halden on a clear day. Follow thw path to Skihytta - The Ski Cabin.
Carry on to the sign that reads "Fredrikstad over Krikåsen", and follow the path marked in blue from here. You pass several well-preserved Bronze Age burial mounds.
Stordammen is on the left side of path - you can bath here! During the descent  from Krikåsen you will find three sandy paths. Turn right, then left, then right again. You are now back on the same road you took to Borredalvannet. Turn right and you`ll arrive back at the barrier in Bjørndalsveien.
The  tourmap "Fredrikstadmarka" is for sale at the Touristoffice in the Old Town.
