The island of Andøya is directly situated below the “auroral oval” at night, which makes this the best location to see the spectacular Northern Lights. Researchers and scientists travel here from all around the world. The phenomenon occurs in an oval around the earth’s magnetic North Pole and rotates around it. The clash of solar winds with the earth’s magnetic field pushes the oval towards the dark side of the planet, which rotates around the geographical North Pole.
