Description

On the western tip of Mosterøy island lays one of the country's finest medieval buildings– the Utstein Monastery. This was one of the royal estates of King Harold Fairhair around year 1000 AD. King Harold Fairhair was the first king to claim sovereignty over all of Norway.

On our way to Mosterøy Island we drive through one of the world’s longest and deepest undersea automobile tunnels - the Byfjord tunnel.

Around the year 1260 the King donated Utstein to the monks at the St. Olav monastery in Stavanger. They established an Augustinian monastery here. Later on it developed into a country manor.

Both the interior and exterior display a wealth of fine details, such as the altarpiece, the baptismal font and the peaceful gardens with its many old trees. Utstein also has its own ghost, the White Lady!

Extra: Coffe/tea and waffels. (Must be pre-booked).
Organ concert. 15 minutes. (Must be pre-booked)
